Click on a picture to enlarge it. Senior naturalist Margaret Ardwin and her father have been tapping sugar maple trees and boiling the sap to make maple syrup for many years. Margaret brought her equipment and demonstrated how farmers determine the proper size tree to tap, what equipment they use and the process for turning watery sap into sugar. Visitors tasted sap and homemade syrup and decorated their own maple seed "helicopter" toy. Despite the steady rain, everyone was eager to see a tree get drilled for a tap, as well as to taste some sap freshly dripping from a sugar maple tree.
