| The 7th annual Yuck Day Owls highlighted
many wonderful and yucky things found in nature.
The Magic Genie used many audience volunteers to assist in his fun magic
show. Wildlife rehabilitators from
Wind Over Wings in Clinton
brought a great horned owl and a sawwhet owl for visitors to examine up
close. Face-painting artist Holly created a menagerie of wild and
imaginary creatures on children's faces. Earthplace naturalists and Junior Staff
volunteers helped children create ghost footprints, take home slime, make
bats and bug masks, paint bittersweet vine snakes, and see hissing
cockroaches up close. A volunteer from the Animal Care team helped
guests learn about the little brown bats at Earthplace, as well as the
importance of bats around the world. At activity stations guests could match
rubber scat with the animal that left it and identify local animals by the
characteristics of their skull. Visitors also enjoyed learning about nature through the dioramas and activity
areas in Natureplace. Hot dogs and refreshments were sold by
Chez Lenard
of Ridgefield.
