Many families enjoyed the fun pirate-theme activities at Campout for the Critters, a family event to benefit the Animal Care and Wildlife Rehabilitation programs at Earthplace. Tents were pitched on the open field by the bear family statue and then the children headed off by age group to the various fun activities. Pirate fun included walking the plank, throwing bones in a skull, tossing cannon balls at a ship and creating treasure boxes. Naturalist Jim Hunter led nature walks in search of fall-blooming plants on a tour of the Earthplace trails. Animal Care staff and volunteers brought out several Earthplace animals, including a rabbit, guinea pig, ferret, corn snake, dove and turkey vulture. Everyone enjoyed a tasty chicken dinner as they were serenaded by guest violinists from the Suzuki Music School in Westport. Nappy's Puppets put on a fun shadow puppet show with a pirate theme. The evening ended with toasting marshmallows for s'mores by the campfire. A Continental breakfast of baked goods, juice and coffee awaited guests the next morning before everyone went back to their own homes. Click on a picture to
