Harvest Day, NAS Tropical Fish Show,
Earthplace Junior Staff Collect Mushrooms

Saturday September 30, 2006

Earthplace was the location for many interesting activities on this fall day.  Harvest Day was held in the Smilow Family Ecology Resource Lab, as children created spatter paintings with leaves, made apple prints, glued decorations for a scarecrow picture, wove materials for a fall wall hanging, and used pressed autumn leaves to create a bookmark.  The museum displays in Natureplace featured many different kinds of plants and animals found in harvest areas in the fall.

The Norwalk Aquarium Society held their 41st annual Tropical Fish Show, featuring judged entries of freshwater tropical fish and aquarium displays, and an auction of fish and aquarium supplies.

The Earthplace Junior Staff collected a bounty of mushrooms and fungi from the woods surrounding Earthplace.  Naturalists Margaret Ardwin and Jim Hunter helped the JS understand ways to identify the different kinds of mushrooms.
