Campout for the Critters September 17, 2005 |

Over twenty families pitched their tents on the main lawn at Earthplace to enjoy a last family campout of the summer season. The Animal Care staff and volunteers presented programs about some of the Earthplace animals, including a ferret, snakes, turtle, cockroach, rabbit and turkey vulture. Each child created a puppet, either as a large mask, raccoon hand puppet or animal finger puppet. A naturalist led walks along the trails. One group heard a barred owl call. Earthplace staff and volunteers donated and cooked a BBQ supper of hamburgers and hot dogs. The evening's special event was a delightful and fun performance of shadow puppets by Jim Napolitano of Nappy's Puppets. The thunderous rain shower that occurred right after dinner cooled off the sultry weather, but the guests were still able to enjoy a "campfire" and s'mores in the Smilow Family Ecology Lab.
