From Sap to Sugar February 28, 2004 |

Senior Naturalist Margaret Ardwin has been tapping maple trees with her family for a long time. Margaret showed visitors the equipment she uses and explained the process for making maple syrup. She and Naturalist Steve Living gave everyone some pure sap and cooked-down syrup to try. Then they drilled a hole and inserted a tap into one of the large sugar maples outside the entrance to Earthplace. The tree was so full of sap it was dripping off the ends of the tree branches. Children enjoyed further maple crafts and activities.
