Junior Curators is a six week after-school program for students in grades 4 through 6 which covers all aspects of animal care: some glamorous…some not! Participants learned about and helped care for many of the Earthplace resident display animals. Each week began with a brief presentation covering natural history and care instructions for specific groups of animals. Featured were: Amphibians, Reptiles, Birds, Mammals and Invertebrates. There were many opportunities for hands-on as the Jr. Curators groomed, cleaned, fed and enjoyed many of the “critters in residence” under the direct supervision of the Animal Care Team. At the end of the course, the Curators presented their knowledge of these animals to the public at the Dinner for the Critters fundraiser, as well as a Saturday public program (shown below).
